ISU baseball team plays against Boise State.

The Idaho State Baseball Club season is about to get underway. The club’s season starts on Feb. 28 in Mesquite, Nev., against the University of Montana, and its first home game will be March 16 at Halliwell Park versus the College of Western Idaho.
Since the baseball team is not an official NCAA sport at ISU, the majority of its funding either comes out of the players’ own pockets or through fundraisers. In an effort to raise funds for the current spring season, specifically for postseason play in La Grande, Ore., and Tampa, Fla., the baseball team is holding a raffle.  “Because we receive very limited funding from the university, most of our funds come from fundraising events like this,” said Dustin Lind, vice president of the ISU Baseball Club. “The money used from this raffle will help pay for travel to our postseason tournament sites in Oregon and Florida.”
The Bengal baseball team is selling raffle tickets for multiple prizes. The winners will be drawn on either April 26 or 27 at their first game of the Utah State conference series at Halliwell Park. The grand prize for the raffle will be a ball signed by Eric Young, Jr. of the Colorado Rockies. Other prizes include a guided white water rafting trip in Montana, Bengal baseball merchandise and gift certificates to local businesses. Tickets can be purchased at the Orange & Black Store in Old Town or at the Campus Recreation office in Reed Gym. The tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.
“We have a goal of winning the National Championship this year, and we believe that we have the talent to do it. We want the community to be a part of the journey,” said Lind. “Without the community’s support, we couldn’t function as a student club.”
