Students in the Alpha Psi Omega theatre club will present two showings of the Agatha Christie murder mystery “And Then There Were None.” The performances are free to attend and will be held in the Rogers Black Box Theatre of the Stephens Performing Arts Center March 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Although the showings are free, raffles will be held during the performances. Donations from local restaurants and stores will make up the raffle items.
“We have gotten sponsors from local businesses and things they’ve donated,” said Jesse Arnold, director of the production.
Arnold named the Coho and Old Town Actors Studio as two raffle sponsors among several others. He said profits from the raffle will go toward Alpha Psi Omega.
“We wanted to do an entirely student-run production,” said Arnold. “The play was chosen by the Alpha Psi Omega presidency.”
According to Arnold, the goal of producing a students-only play worked well with “And Then There Were None.” He said the number of Alpha Psi Omega performers matched well with the amount of parts in the Agatha Christie classic.
“The audience can expect to see some great acting, some fun thrills and a good old-fashioned murder mystery,” Arnold added.
He said he has enjoyed working on the production and seeing changes in the cast over the course of their rehearsals.
“The best part has been seeing the improvements that the actors have made from the start of the show,” he said. “I’m very proud of them for that.”
“The cast and crew had a great time working on [the play],” he added.
Plans for subsequent student-run productions are in Alpha Psi Omega’s future, according to Arnold.
“We plan to continue to do a student-produced production each year and be able to perform on campus for students and members of the community,” he said.
