Celebrate Halloween with a scare: Where to go for local haunted houses and fall attractions

It’s the time of year when the leaves begin to fall, pumpkin spice lattes are at hand and sweater weather is in full effect. With Halloween just a few weeks away, the spooky season is also in full swing. The Bengal has composed a list of local attractions that are fit for that perfect scare.

Haunted Science Laboratory

Open to public Oct. 27

Science and scares collide at the Haunted Science Laboratory, hosted by ISU Physics and the Kiwanis Club of Pocatello. Sights to see include a Van deGraaf generator, lasers moving to music and other interactive, educational science exhibits and activities. Proceeds from the public event on Oct. 27 go to Kiwanis-supported charities for children.

Fear on Fifth

Come visit one of Pocatello’s most haunted attractions. Located in an old abandoned restaurant, Fear on Fifth is home to a haunting you don’t want to miss. It’s a small venue filled with realistic props and a creepy cast that call for big scares.

The Haunted Mansions of Albion is an abandoned college campus of over 100,000 square feet, consisting of five separate buildings. Aside from being one of the largest in and outdoor haunted attractions in the northwest, the Haunted Mansions of Albion will be featured on Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures this fall. Come see attractions like the School of Chaos and the Clown House and get your scare on.

The Haunted Mill is one of the largest haunted attractions in Eastern Idaho. The historic flour mill has four different levels, but the scare doesn’t stop there. You can explore the grounds that feature the original log granary, underground mines, a maze and more. The tour takes about 45 minutes to complete. While you are there, you will be face-to-face with different mill legends such as The Lady in White, Miller’s Mine, The Scarecrow, Slenderman, Masks and Blood Falls, and that’s just naming a few.

Lost Souls Attractions consists of two separate buildings, the hospital and the theatre. Local legend says that not only is the attraction haunted with props, but it’s haunted with real ghosts as well. Numerous amounts of sightings have been reported since opening the attraction, which makes it that much scarier.

Disclaimer: All of these attractions are not recommended for children under 10 years old. If they do attend, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times. These locations are not suitable for infants or toddlers. If you are pregnant, have a history of heart problems or other medical conditions, which may be aggravated by high levels of fog, fear, crawling, uneven ground or excitement, these attractions may not be for you.
