This December, Pocatello offers a variety of budget-friendly events for holiday celebrations. From free Christmas carnivals and cookie decorating to traditional cultural celebrations and a Krampus party, there’s something for everyone. Support local businesses at the Christmas Market or enjoy the Christmas Lights Hayride Tour, all without breaking the bank.
Two new Mocktails! Basil Pomegranate Lemonade uses fresh basil and lemonade but was a little sweet. The Zachary Daiquiri, made with frozen fruit and ginger ale, was well-balanced and refreshing.
Hygge Place, a unique bookstore in downtown Pocatello opened by Cammy Barrera, combines new and used books with a variety of houseplants. Barrera welcomes patrons to hang out and hosts events like craft nights and a Winter Solstice celebration in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The Christmas Tree Lighting Festival at ISU, initiated by students in 2010, signifies the holiday season’s start. Originally featuring small trees, it has evolved into a grand event with a permanent 30ft tree and an ice sculpture by Danny Spangler. The festival attracts numerous students who enjoy festive activities and create lasting memories.

The Office of the Dean of Students at Idaho State University is hosting Benny’s Giving Tree, a gift drive aimed at supporting families in need during the holidays. Community members can sponsor children by selecting tags from the tree and delivering gifts by December 9.
