Your Netflix guide to the 2019 holiday season

Christmas with the Kranks Kaitlyn Hart

Some people would say that you have to wait until after Thanksgiving to bust out the decorations and turn on ‘Elf.’ They would say that it is too early to start listening to Bing Crosby and that Target is too ahead of the game with all of the stocking stuffer aisles. But why wait an entire month for the best season of the year? Why waste all of November acting like it’s just another month, when we are exactly six weeks away from Christmas?

One of the best things about the modern world is the expansion of Holiday movies and the ease of access we have to feel perfectly holly-jolly at any time of day. That said, here are some of the most exciting movies and shows coming to Netflix, (and some of my favorites that are currently streaming) that are sure to make you excited enough to break out the Christmas tree.

Christmas with the Kranks; Currently available on Netflix

“When Luther Krank (Tim Allen) and his wife, Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) opt to skip Christmas — no tree and no rooftop Frosty — can they handle the fallout from their family and neighbors?”

Disney’s The Santa Clause 1, 2, and 3: The Escape Clause; Coming to Netflix on December 12

Divorced dad Scott (Tim Allen) has custody of his son (Eric Lloyd) on Christmas Eve. After he accidentally kills a man in a Santa suit, they are magically transported to the North Pole, where an elf explains that Scott must take Santa’s place before the next Christmas arrives. Scott thinks he’s dreaming, but over the next several months he gains weight and grows an inexplicably white beard. Maybe that night at the North Pole wasn’t a dream after all — and maybe Scott has a lot of work to do.”

The Christmas Chronicles; Currently available on Netflix

“Siblings Kate (Darby Campy) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) hatch a scheme to capture Santa Claus (Kurt Russel) on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it’s too late.”

El Camino Christmas; Coming to Netflix on December 8

“A young man (Dax Shepard) seeking the father he has never met ends up barricaded inside of a liquor store with five other people on Christmas Eve.”

Let It Snow; Currently available on Netflix

“A snowstorm hits a small town on a cold Christmas Eve, affecting the friendships, love lives and futures of several high school seniors.”

White Christmas; Currently available on Netflix

“Two war buddies (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) fall for two sisters and follow the girls to a resort owned by their former commanding officer, who is in danger of losing the place.”

Dr. Suess’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000); Currently available on Netflix

“The Grinch (Jim Carrey) decides to rob Whoville of Christmas — but a dash of kindness from little Cindy Lou Who and her family may be enough to melt his heart.”

A Very Murray Christmas; Currently available on Netflix

“He’s got a bad case of the Christmas Eve blues. But he’s about to have the night of his dreams.”

A Family Reunion Christmas; Coming to Netflix on December 9

“The McKellans face the ghosts of Christmas past in this holiday special about the importance of family, forgiveness, and empathy.”

Holiday in the Wild; Currently available on Netflix

“When her husband abruptly ends their marriage, empty nester Kate (Kristin Davis) embarks on a solo second honeymoon in Africa, finding purpose — and potential romance (Rob Lowe).”
