WHERE STUDENTS BECOME BENGALS

Brooke Barber

Director of Orientation, Leadership and Service

Welcome, new Bengals. We are so glad that you have decided to join Idaho State University this fall semester. Whether you are a brand new college student or a transfer student from a different institution, we know that you will find this to be a university that is deeply committed to the student experience. The fall semester will be here quickly and there are many exciting things in store for you.

By now, you are hopefully very familiar with the words “New Student Orientation,” through the printed mailings that have been sent to your home. Also known as NSO, New Student Orientation is a program designed to make the transition of our newest Bengals as seamless as possible. It is during NSO that you have the opportunity to dine with faculty and learn more about your intended major. It is during NSO that you have the chance to meet other new students, as you participate in campus traditions like “March Through the Arch.” It is during NSO that you truly begin your new journey as a Bengal.

New Student Orientation programs are offered at the Pocatello Campus and each of the ISU Outreach Centers (Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Meridian). We hope that you will save-the-date and plan to join us with your family. For more details and to sign-up, please visit isu.edu/nso.

March Through the Arch

Perhaps the favorite tradition of most ISU students. New students, led by our beloved mascot Benny, will cross through the Swanson Arch into campus, symbolizing official entrance into the university. A dinner will follow on the Quad for those who received a ticket at the March. (Pocatello Campus; Sunday, Aug. 21; 5 p.m.)

Party at the Pond

New students will take over the Pond Student Union Building and enjoy dinner, bowling at the Games Center, athletes and a massive game of Bingo with prizes. (Pocatello Campus; Saturday, Aug. 20; 6-9 p.m.)

Concert on Quad

Enjoy the sounds of “Wheeland Brothers” under the stars on the Quad. Open to the entire student body. Free admission. (Pocatello Campus; Friday, Aug. 19; 7:15 p.m.)

Movie on the Quad

Bring a chair or blanket and join us for a special viewing of the 2016 new release of “The Jungle Book.” Open to the entire student body. Free admission and free snacks. (Pocatello Campus; Saturday, Aug. 20; 9 p.m.)
