THE SST MENU AT BUTTERBURR’S IS THE WAY TO GO

When you think of ButterBurr’s, you may be thinking of their killer home fries or their twists, but the real bargain here is the SST menu, which stands for soup, salad and a treat.

This means you can get a soup or a salad and a three-inch sandwich which comes with a bread stick or dessert.

Since 1981, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, ButterBurr’s, which is located on Yellowstone Ave. just north of Alameda, has been feeding Pocatello with a good, hearty, American-style menu. This family-style restaurant is a little on the older side, but you will find a homey environment inside with excellent service. They are always asking you for refills on your drinks, which are free and can save you a couple bucks.

The menu has an interesting variety of things. You can get a steaming bowl of soup, or a fresh garden salad or a three-inch sandwich. The SST menu is much cheaper than the other menu items. For $7.99 you can get a cold roast beef sandwich, or for a $8.99 you can get a hot hamburger.

Other sandwiches that cost $7.99 include cold roast beef, roast turkey, ham and swiss, a bacon-turkey club, grilled cheese, and a pastrami and swiss.

For an extra dollar, you can add french fries, which is worth it because they cook them well-done and I like well-done french fries because that is the proper way to make them. French fries at McDonald’s are half-cooked, so if you like McDonald’s french fries, you won’t like ButterBurr’s french fries.

After you’ve picked your sandwich, you can choose either a soup or a salad.

The SST menu comes with a garden salad, which comes in an ample portion size. You can get a bread stick or a twist with the salad. The salad comes with your choice of dressing, but I always order my salads with two portions of dressings because I like them fully dressed.

As far as soups go, the cream of potato-bacon is a hearty and thick killer-soup. You won’t need the large order, the regular will do.

This soup is a hearty soup that puts the potato-bacon soup in Rendezvous to shame because the Rendezvous soup is not a thick and hearty soup like this one. The soups at ButterBurr’s also come with a bread stick or a twist.

I would recommend getting the raspberry twist. The cinnamon is not the thing to get because the raspberry is much better. They seem to have put actual raspberry jam in the twist, which gives it an authentic feeling.  This eight-inch pastry is a great value.

Sometimes, I will just go in an order a cup of coffee with a twist because they are that good and that is all I need to fill myself up.

You will not be disappointed if you go to ButterBurr’s and try the SST menu.

It is a good value with diversity and comes with a free dessert.
