With spring right around the corner, the time has come for students to begin looking for housing for both the summer and fall semester. Some things people should consider while looking for housing are the following: floor plan, cost, amenities, community, management and proximity to campus. Here at The Bengal, we will be doing a series of reviews on all of the housing options available to students over the next couple weeks. The next housing option on the list is the Rendezvous.
Floor Plan
The Rendezvous residence hall is typically reserved for upperclassmen and honor students, but it is still possible for anyone to apply and receive admittance. The Rendezvous Hall is suite-style living with four 9×11 bedrooms, a common living area, a washer and dryer and bathroom within each suite. Each bedroom contains a twin-long bed, a wardrobe, a desk with a single chair, and two dressers that fit underneath the bed.
The bedroom can be locked with the same key as the front door. However, your key is tailored to your room specifically, meaning it cannot open your roomates’ bedrooms or vice versa.
“I like it because we have our own rooms and personal space plus eating amenities,” said one resident, Jake Shields. “One thing I would love to have, though, is a stove or an oven.”
Cost
Housing cost is another thing students must take into consideration when house hunting. Rendezvous requires a $150 down payment when applying as well as $1,996 at the start of the semester. Rendezvous is the most expensive residence hall on campus, but it is also the only residence hall with its own washer and dryer in the suite and a private bathroom.
Proximity to Campus
The Rendezvous Residence Hall is directly in the middle of campus, making it an ideal location to live. However, though it may be in a convenient location, parking is very limited. It is advised to purchase a General or Housing parking permit as opposed to just Housing because there is so little room. Most students are forced to park in one of the General lots near Rendezvous.
“I like the position on campus the most,” said another resident, Marshal Whitaker. “It’s right in the middle. You’re within reasonable walking distance with everything.”
Amenities
Rendezvous is more than just a student residence hall. There is also a great deal of classes in the building, several 24-hour computer labs, a food court, and a c-store in the main atrium.
As of this semester, the food court meals can be purchased with the meal plan and not just flex or cash. The suites also contain a refrigerator, two lounge chairs, a small couch, as well as wi-fi and free cable in all four bedrooms and the living area.
“Overall, it’s not bad living, especially with four roommates,” said Rendezvous resident Nick Philip. “The number one thing I would change is the shower water. It is always cold all the time and it’s horrible.”
