Men’s Tennis:

ISU 4, Metro State 3

The men’s tennis team extended its win streak to three matches with a 4-3 win at Metro State on Sunday afternoon.

It was the first time this season the Bengals have competed outdoors.

The Bengals clinched the doubles point early, winning at both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. ISU (6-7) kicked things off with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles as Keegan Sullivan and Francis Filipovich teamed up to defeat Metro’s Calum Hayes and Kacey Walisundara 6-1. No. 64 Peter Trhac and David Felix clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Josh Graetz and Joey Tscherne at No. 1 doubles.

The Bengals split singles matches with Metro State (9-8) as each program claimed three singles wins. Felix, Sullivan and Austin Gwilliam each recorded singles wins for the Bengals at

the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

Northern Arizona 6, ISU 1

The men’s tennis team fell to visiting Northern Arizona 6-1 last Saturday morning at the Reed Gym Tennis Courts.

ISU (6-8, 3-4 BSC) claimed the doubles point early as No. 64 Peter Trhac and David Felix bested NAU’s Thomas Fisher and Sebastian Eguez 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. ISU’s Austin Gwilliam and Francis Filipovich clinched the doubles point at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 win over the ‘Jacks’ Felix Schumann and Ruben Montano.

The momentum shifted in singles play, as Northern Arizona (7-9, 5-1 BSC) swept the Bengals at each singles position. ISU forced three-sets at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 positions, but the ‘Jacks prevailed at each.

Women’s Tennis:

ISU 4, Montana 3

The women’s tennis team battled for a 4-3 win over visiting Montana last Friday afternoon at the Reed Gym Tennis Courts. The Bengals rebounded after losing the doubles point early, winning four singles matches to secure the win.

ISU (7-9, 4-2 BSC) took an early lead at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, but Montana (7-11, 3-4 BSC) came roaring back, stealing the doubles point after winning 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and 6-4 at No. 3. No. 1 doubles went unfinished once the Griz clinched the doubles point.

Montana claimed the first singles win as Hristina Cvetkovic fell in two sets at No. 1 singles to UM’s Julia Ronney, 6-4, 6-3, but the Bengals claimed the next singles match as Huibre-Mare Botes defeated Cam Kincaid 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The Griz took the next match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, but the Bengals claimed big wins at No. 3, No. 6 and No. 5 singles to clinch the win. Louise-Mare Botes defeated Nathalie Joanlanne in a come-from-behind tiebreaker win, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) while Angela Walker also won in three sets with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6. Megan Poe sealed the win with a huge three-set tiebreaker win at No. 5, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(7-1).

Softball:

Portland State 2, ISU 1

ISU 5, Portland State 4

The softball team split a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Portland State, losing 2-1 in 10 innings and rallying to a 5-4 victory in game two.

The 10 inning games ties for the second most innings played in a game and it was the seventh time in series history ISU and Portland State have played extra innings.

In the two games, ISU had only 10 hits. Genesis Zamora, Haley Harrison and Frankie Tago each had two. Tago also had a homer.

Ashlyn Ames took the loss in the 10-inning game. In the two games she pitched 11.2 innings, allowing nine hits, two runs, three walks and six strikeouts. Ames earned the save in the second game.

Mariah Mulcahy earned the win by pitching five innings, allowing nine hits, four runs, four walks and six strikeouts.

Portland State 5, ISU 0

The softball team lost 5-0 to Portland State on last Saturday afternoon.

The Bengals had only three hits and committed one error.

Emma Bordenkecher had two hits and Zamora had one.

Mulcahy pitched two innings, allowed one hit and had three strikeouts. Ashlyn Ames took the loss. She pitched the final four innings, allowing six hits, five runs (one earned), two walks and one strikeout.
