A how-to for V-Day at ISU
The sometimes dreaded 14th of February is coming quickly, and the day can leave both single people and couples wondering what to do to get through it. Idaho State University hosts a variety of events on and around Valentine’s Day.
On Wednesday, Feb. 13, action seekers can view “The Man with the Iron Fists” (R) in the Bengal Theater at 8 p.m. Set in feudal China, the film features stars including Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu. Tickets are free with a valid Bengal ID, making this an inexpensive date or night out.
Whether students are traditionalists or not, there are plenty of events happening on Thursday, Feb. 14. For athletic types, the Campus Recreation Center’s Cupid’s Challenge offers partner competitions. The event runs from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. All participants will receive T-shirts and some will win restaurant gift certificates.
Reed Gym Pool will be hosting Open Kayak at 6 p.m., so if a sit-down dinner and a romantic comedy sounds a little cliché, get some kayaking experience instead.
“Knight of the Burning Pestle” will be performed in the Rogers Black Box Theatre Thursday, Feb. 14; Friday, Feb. 15; and Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 with Bengal ID. The renaissance comedy makes a great date for literature lovers and comedy fiends alike.
For music lovers, paired or unpaired, the “Romeo and Juliet” performance by the Idaho State-Civic Symphony featuring pianist Lori Sims is a must-see. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jensen Grand Concert Hall on Friday, Feb. 15. Tickets range from $10 to $30 based on seating. The symphony will feature selections from Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev.
For students kept busy by work or school during the week looking for a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the weekend, The Society will be performing comedy improv on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in Frazier Hall. Bring a friend or a date and prepare for laughter. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for non-students if bought through ISU Campus Connection in the Pond Student Union Building. Tickets are $2 more at the door.
Looking to stay in? Single students can plan get-togethers with friends in lieu of ignoring the day or moping. Enjoy some wine, watch a movie or go out to dinner together.
“I’m celebrating Gal-entines Day, which is a day where I celebrate all the amazing friends I have who love me because I don’t need a relationship to feel loved,” said sophomore Mimi Price.
