ISU students can lock, load and prepare for battle because a Nerf club is debuting on campus.
The new club is the brainchild of Nelson Bishop, an ISU student who decided to share his lifelong hobby with other students.
“Ever since I was a little kid, I have enjoyed playing with Nerf products with my family and friends,” he said. “I thought it would be really neat to bring this to a campus setting where I could find more people who share similar interests.”
ASISU provided approval for the club on Jan. 31. At the senate meeting, Bishop said that Public Safety granted permission for the club’s Nerf battles to take place on campus.
“I think there are a lot of students who like indulging in activities from their youth,” Bishop said, “and so I felt we would be successful if we could make this an official ASISU club.”
Bishop told ASISU that with club funding, he hopes to secure an arsenal for club members.
He also told ASISU senators that his brother is organizing a similar club in Logan and that they plan to coordinate battles between the two clubs.
As the club grows, members plan to reserve rooms on campus, like the Pond Student Union Ballroom, and fields outside as the weather warms up.
Nerf club battles will start out with three game modes: capture the flag, last man standing and a team battle competition.
“It’s an easy club to join and be active in,” said club member Lane Munson. “The goal is to have battles and just enjoy each other’s company. There isn’t a huge learning curve or time commitment involved with the Nerf club. Anyone can join and have a great time.”
While the club is still relatively new, interested students can join the mailing list by emailing Bishop at ude.usinull@slenhsib to stay in the know while club plans are solidified.
“We know everyone is busy with school and personal life, so we want this club to have a very relaxed, welcome to all, easy-going vibe to it,” Bishop said. “Once we start getting our Nerf gun arsenal ready, we are wanting to have, at the least, monthly meetings and just create an entertaining environment.”
