Le Counseil Français is one of the many cultural clubs at Idaho State University that gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in another culture.
“[Le Counseil Français] is a good opportunity to learn to function in a group, especially for officers,” said club president Chris Nash. “It’s a nice thing to have on your résumé, and really any club on campus is worth getting involved in.”
In addition to various social events such as movie nights, game nights and meals, the club is working to become more active in local service events.
Recently, a few club members volunteered at the local women’s prison with a local Girl Scout troop. The troop is made up of girls whose parents are incarcerated and the volunteer activity helps the girls spend time with their moms. In addition, Le Counseil Français is planning on participating in ISU Student Activities Board’s ‘Service Saturdays.’
“It’s been a great experience,” said Nash. “[I’ve met] a lot of great people and had a lot of fun.”
Club members are currently planning their annual cultural night “Taste of France.” The event will take place in the Pond Student Union Building Ballroom on March 9 at 6 p.m. and will showcase French culture.
“[Taste of France] is our main fundraiser,” explained Nash. “There will be live entertainment, food, a raffle and door prizes. It’s going to be lots of fun.”
Raffle tickets will be $1 each or six for $5 and prizes are raffled separately so attendees may choose which prizes they enter their tickets for.
This year, some of the food options at Taste of France will include beef bourgignon, cous cous and veggies, niçoise and apple tarte tatin.
Pre-sale tickets are $7 for students, $8 for ISU staff and faculty and $9 for community members and the general public. Tickets will be $1 more at the door.
Le Counseil Français members will be selling tickets in the SUB from Wednesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, March 8.
The club is offering free event tickets and one free raffle ticket for volunteers who help cook or set up on Saturday, March 9.
