A kitchen fire was cause for some tense moments for the students who reside in Schubert Heights, an on-campus apartment complex near Miller Ranch Stadium on Bartz Dr.

The fire damaged portions of the fourth floor and much of the building was damaged by smoke.

No injuries were reported and the university has provided on-campus accommodations to all 70 residents. Volunteers of the Red Cross of Greater Idaho are providing hygiene items, medication replacement, assistance funds and mental health volunteers.

The fire started around 6:30 p.m. last Saturday night in a kitchen on the fourth floor. The Pocatello Fire Department responded quickly and the fire was put out within an hour. The fire department then conducted a full sweep of the building around 7:30 p.m.

Students were advised to stay away from the area most of Saturday night while fire crews battled the blaze and ensured the area was safe.

ISU Housing met with students Saturday evening and have placed them in alternate housing units on campus. The university is working with impacted students to make sure their needs are being met, which may continue throughout the next couple weeks.
