In the Pond Student Union building there is now an area known as the Student Welcome Center. The center will serve current and new students as a sort of “front door” to the campus. One of the main purposes of this new facility will be to help new and incoming students. There are student ambassadors and faculty that will be there to help students.
The center is located on the bottom floor of the PSUB and took about four months to complete. “Construction consisted of removing the exterior front wall of the space and adding glass storefront to create an open inviting feel.” said Director of Design and Construction, Jason Adams.
Since the space was just a big open room so the designers put in interior walls to create separate rooms and offices. The space now has two offices, a presentation room, a production room, a workstation area, and a reception area.
The main reason for the move is to make the center more easy to find and more centralized for students. The PSUB is a main building at the campus and one of the better known buildings to students.
“As of right now the visitor center is on the fourth floor of the Museum Building, which is hard to find.the purpose of the move in my opinion is for the visitor center to be more centralized and easy to find for future bengals.” said Entertainment Chair of the Student Activities Board, Brian Andersen
The main questions that new students might have is,”How do I apply for classes?” “What events are happening on campus?” “How do I apply for housing?” Where are my classes located?” Well those questions can be answered at the Student Welcome Center. There are student ambassadors that will be happy to help in any way. Even if they can’t directly answer your question or be able to help you at the welcome center, they can help direct you to someone that will.
Overall, Idaho State University is committed to helping any student new and old in any way they can. College is a very new experience for new bengals and they often need assistance in navigating the college and all its many facets. Even experienced students have questions. This new welcome center will be a very good asset to assisting students and further their knowledge of the campus, classes, and college in general.
