ISU offering new student job opportunities

This spring semester has many new job opportunities for students with positions being offered that include different skills that students can benefit from.

All of the new jobs being offered for the spring semester include: Student Building Manager, Student Custodian, Event Services Specialist, Customer Service Representative,

Assistant Audio Visual Technician, Building Maintenance Assistant, and Movie Theatre Usher.

The Student Custodian position is a great job that offers opportunities to develop helpful skills. The job description on the website Handshake states that some of the requirements would be, “maintaining the overall appearance of the Pond Student Union and Rendezvous which includes housekeeping and light maintenance.”

The student would need to wear the proper protective attire, be comfortable with doing basic cleaning such as mopping, sweeping, and vacuuming, and be able to perform the tasks with little supervision. They must be able to work flexible hours and weekends, with previous experience in customer service, custodial positions, or have a maintenance background. For the Event Services Specialist position, some requirements according to the Handshake website include: “Excellent communication skills with the ability to ask questions, solve problems, and interact with customers. Audiovisual operation and troubleshooting skill. Some knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work. Knowledge of custodial safety practices; cleaning agents and related products.”

What a student might expect when doing this job is to be responsible for all events in the PSUB, Rendezvous, and Quad. Also the student would be expected to clean and assist in maintaining the area that the event will be held and ensure all the required equipment is set up and in the correct place. Another job being offered is the Student Building Manager. The duties of a Building Manager are: “meet and greet customers for all scheduled events, assist with changes when needed. Setup audiovisual equipment. Respond to Information desk calls. Supervise the student facility employees and assign duties throughout the day. Monitor and provide safety and security for guests. Generate a written report of activities occurring during the shift and report unusual circumstances or incidents. Serve as a resource to guests and employees. Interpret and enforce Student Union policies and procedures. Promote and facilitate communication among staff. Communicate and work closely with full time staff. Attend orientation meeting and train new employees. Attend all scheduled workshops and in-service training opportunities,” from the Handshake website.

The qualifications that a student would be required to have is be organized, task and detail oriented, be willing to help others, and be able to work independently.

These jobs all include skills that any student can benefit from and they are all located on campus. The jobs listed above are not all the jobs that are currently being offered by the University.
