The 2019-20 Idaho State golf season begins in less than two weeks. Last year’s season ended at the Big Sky Conference Championships in Boulder City, Nevada where the Bengals made program history.

With a score of 958 in three rounds, it was tied for the sixth-best score of any tournament ever played and the third-best score for any ISU golf team at the Big Sky Conference Championship.

This year the Bengals look to hit the ground running to continue their success from last season.

“We played great for our program and we know the future is so bright,” Atkins said at the conclusion of the last season. “We are excited to have Tya and Tyler, who are just so steady, who can have those small mistakes and still shoot low and hang with any of them. With our recruiting class coming in we are going to be someone to watch in the next few years.”

Sophomore Tya Seth tied for the best round in Idaho State history in last year’s championship after scoring a 71 in round three. Seth shot a 227 for the entire tournament, which was the score ever by a Bengal at the Big Sky Conference Championship. Another sophomore Tyler Erickson shot a 239 at last year’s championship. Seth and Erickson are set to lead the Bengals this season along with a handful of freshman.

Out of the nine players on the current roster, four are freshmen. The incoming freshmen are Jamie Connell, Kyla Hoster, Alexis Wilson and redshirt freshman Mackenzie Robins. Idaho State only has two upper classmen in junior Lexi DeChon and senior Hadley Hersh.

The youth of the team may keep Idaho State from competing for a conference title now but the future is looking up.

The Bengals start their season in Anaconda, Montana at the Battle at Old Works on Sept. 16-17.
