Halloween Costumes on the cheap

Halloween is fast approaching, which means it’s just about time to suit up! For college students, finding a great Halloween costume and not going broke can be a tricky line to toe.

Since we at “The Bengal” understand the effort it takes to find easy, affordable fun, we put together a roundup of Halloween costumes that are quick to make and hopefully won’t require many purchases.

Max from “A Goofy Movie”: Layer a baggy red T-shirt over a black, long-sleeved shirt. Pair this with some baggy jeans, white gloves and black shoes and you’re just about there. For the finishing touch, cut out some felt in the shape of Max’s ears and attach those to a black baseball hat. Now you’re sure to stand out after today.

Peter Pan: Grab some green leggings, preferably thick ones, since Idaho Halloweens tend to be pretty darn cold. On the top, wear a long green shirt belted with leather. Brown leather boots and a brown cap with a red feather will finish off this simple costume. Bonus points if your friends dress up in fleece onesies, Lost Boys-style.

Let’s be bandits!: This one is perfect for those who avoid bright hues like the plague. Pair a black-and-white-striped shirt with black pants and black shoes. Top it off with a black beanie, black gloves and a black bandit mask from a party store. For the full effect, buy an inexpensive blank tote bag and use fabric paint to add a dollar sign to it.

For an extra dimension of fun, add cat ears and whiskers to become a cat burglar.

Jelly beans, anyone?: Find some clear garbage bags and colorful balloons for this one. The top of the garbage bag will tie (loosely) around your neck, so cut arm and leg holes to fit. Blow up a variety of colored balloons to fill the bag, so you’ll look just like a bag of jelly beans. Add some bright-colored pants and a shirt to complete the colorful effect.

If you’re feeling exceptionally laid-back, take the “Mean Girls” approach to Halloween costumes and simply put on a pair of costume animal ears. As Karen Smith would say, “I’m a mouse, duh!”
