100 people lined the busy streets near the Pocatello municipal building Friday afternoon in observance of a “Global Climate Strike.” Joining was Sixteen-year-old Aspen Denney who rode her bicycle with a sign summarizing her feelings about an international climate crisis. Regional: Bannock County’s chief deputy prosecutor had no intention of pursuing rape charges against a Pocatello elementary school teacher

Citing a lack of corroborating evidence, Bannock County’s chief deputy prosecutor had no intention of pursuing rape and lewd conduct charges against a Pocatello elementary school teacher just six weeks before a grand jury indicted her on the charges, court records say. The teacher, Tiffany Marie Petersen, 46, of Pocatello, appeared untroubled Friday as she sat with her attorney, Shane Reichert of Pocatello, during a motions hearing in front of Judge Mitchell Brown at the Bannock County Courthouse in Pocatello. Reichert, trying to prove her innocence, said that Petersen was charged with the sex crimes and her good reputation as a school teacher has been forever tarnished despite the fact she passed a polygraph test, and he likened her ordeal to that of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who he said faced similarly false allegations.

National: President Trump has acknowledged discussing Joe Bide in a phone call with the Ukrainian president

President Trump acknowledged on Sunday that he discussed former Vice President Joe Biden with Ukraine’s president as Democrats ramped up calls for an investigation into whether he improperly pressured a foreign leader to investigate a political opponent. While Trump defended his July phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine as appropriate, he confirmed that Biden came up during the discussion and that he accused the former vice president of corruption tied to his son Hunter’s business activities in that old Soviet republic. Trump did not directly confirm news reports that he pressured Zelensky for an investigation. The Wall Street Journal has reported that Trump urged Zelensky about eight times during the July 25 phone call to work with the president’s lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, on an investigation of Biden and his son.

International: Benjamin Netanyahu faces an uncertain future going into weeks of political negotiation.

Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, faces an uncertain future after the most recent election. The incumbent and his main rival, Benny Gantz, are vying to build and lead a governing coalition. The stage is set for weeks of political negotiation. Israel had never before had a second election in the same year, and there was speculation about voter fatigue, which didn’t come to pass. In fact, with nearly all the votes counted, turnout went up to nearly 70%, from 68.5% in April. His challenger’s centrist Blue and White alliance came away with 35 seats in April’s election, the same number as Netanyahu’s Likud party. Gantz hopes now he can oust the prime minister at the second attempt.
