Robert Miklos, Cody Martin and Richard England are senior mechanical engineering students working on a vehicle for the Society of Automotive Engineers’ (SAE) competition known as Baja SAE. The event only allows for 100 teams to register to the competition location Miklos, Martin and England are participating at.

Baja SAE consists of three regional competitions where engineering students deal with common engineering design projects and their related challenges

The task is to build and man a single person off-road vehicle through a variety of obstacles and different types of courses.

“There are three of us on the design team, and there are four events, so all of us are going to get to drive,” said Miklos.

The challenges of the events include hill climbing, acceleration, maneuverability and a rock crawl.

The event will be held Thursday, May 16, through Sunday, May 19, in Bellingham, Wash.

“This is the first time Idaho State University has had a team participating in the event,” said Miklos. “I think finding the money for the trip will be the biggest challenge. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without our sponsors.”

Sponsors for the project include ISU Mechanical Engineering, ASISU and many other ISU and Pocatello organizations and companies, said Miklos.
