Country music band Emerson Drive will be performing at Idaho State University on Friday, April 19. The concert is scheduled for the final day of the Student Activities Board’s SpringFest events and will be at 7 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Building (PSUB) Ballroom.
Ticket prices are $5 for students, $7 for faculty and staff and $10 for community members, according to Ryan Heffner, marketing chair of the Student Activities Board. Groups of 10 or more students can purchase tickets for $3 per student.
Tickets can be purchased at the Student Involvement Center on the first floor of the PSUB, said Heffner.
ISU programs have been trying to bring the band here for several years.
Best known for the number one single “Moments,” Emerson Drive has been touring together since the mid-1990s.
Emerson Drive won Top New Vocal Group or Duo at the 2003 Academy of Country Music Awards. The previous year, the band’s self-titled debut album reached number 13 on the Billboard country music charts.
Fans of country music will recognize early singles by the Alberta, Canada, natives. These include the 2001 and 2002 hits “I Should Be Sleeping” and “Fall into Me.”
Emerson Drive was formed by a group of high school friends in 1994, according to the band’s website. After the 2002 release of their debut album, the musicians put out albums in 2004 and 2006, followed by the album “Believe” in 2009.
Emerson Drive is now coming off a two-year hiatus. During their break from recording and touring, the band’s members focused on songwriting.
“We never had the time before to write songs. We were always so busy. I started to concentrate on writing, and in one year, I think that I wrote 40 something songs. It felt good to finally have the chance to do it,” said guitarist Danick Dupelle on the band’s website.
With the 2012 release of the album “Roll,” Emerson Drive is back in the country music scene. The band is featured on the CMT Hitlist Tour, which has taken the group across its native Canada for shows throughout March.
“I really feel like this is the album and the sound that will keep our band moving forward for another 10 years,” said lead vocalist Brad Mate on the group’s website.
