At the eighth annual ISU Ambush, daring Bengals waded through pools, weaved through tires and jumped over slick logs and hay bale barriers while getting coated in mud.

The Spartan-style obstacle race took place last Saturday. The 5K course kicked off and ended at Bartz Field. While parts of the course were in the grass, much of it was laid out in the brushy area near Red Hill.

“This was such a fun event to get involved with all that ISU has to offer,” said student and past participant Bailey Andersen. “It was fun to get out, exercise, and meet lots of people.”

Teams consisted of four to seven members who began registering for the event in July.

Employees at Primary Care Specialists heard about the event through Facebook and signed up to compete as a team.

“The ISU Ambush was a highlight of my first semester,” said Marley Pilster, another student and past participant. “I loved going through all of the obstacles and being competitive with one another. It’s a fun way to get your exercise in and have a memory forever.”

The event was sponsored by local businesses including the event’s main sponsor, ISU Credit Union.

Other sponsors included Idaho Central Credit Union, Picture Perfect Product, Jamba Juice, Brian’s Point S Tire and Auto Repair, Starr Corp, Mcneel Productions and Tara Tracy Photography.

Sponsors provided t-shirts and goody bags for the participants.

While the event was fun for the participants, it served an important purpose for ISU’s student government.

“This is the eighth year ASISU has put on this event,” said Logan Schmidt, ASISU President. “All the money raised goes to scholarships and student projects such as the Bengal eyes.”
