POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State women’s tennis team had a strong start to the 2017 fall season with the completion of the Idaho State Invitational. Louise-Mare Botes, Huibre-Mare Botes and Hristina Cvetkovic led the Bengals in singles play, while the Botes’ sisters advanced to the semi-finals in doubles play.
In singles play, Louise-Mare Botes, Huibre-Mare Botes and Cvetkovic all advanced to the semifinals in the Orange draw. Huibre-Mare Botes fell to Julia Ronney of Montana 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 7-5, while Louise-Mare Botes bested Cvetkovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Louise-Mare Botes fell to Ronney in the championship match 7-5, 6-3.
In doubles play, the Botes’ sisters defeated UM’s doubles team of Catherine Orfonos and Nathalie Joanlanne 7-6(3) to advance to the semifinals, but they fell to Montana’s duo of Bianca Bostrom and Cam Kincaid 6-4. Louise-Mare and Huibre-Mare then faced another Griz duo, Ronney and Eimear Maher, in the third-place match. The Botes’ sisters took the match 6-3 for a third-place doubles finish.
Idaho State continues individual tournament play at the Weber State Invitational, Oct. 6-8 in Ogden, Utah.
