As ISU students embark on the final leg of the fall semester, one thing is on the minds of most professors and employees: spring semester. This upcoming spring semester, students are fortunate to have the continued support of the Academic Advising staff here at the university; the staff only has students’ best interest in mind as this semester the schedule will be released a week earlier than usual. Initially, the schedule was not set to drop until October 21st, but now it will be released on October 14th.

I spoke with Aaron Todd, the Executive Director of Advising here at ISU, about the upcoming schedule and registration dates. Todd expressed his excitement for the early release, “I think it is so beneficial to students. It allows them to get into advising appointments more easily; everything is happening faster than usual, which is really exciting. It is kind of breaking news; we learned about it around a week ago, and it was confirmed that this was a go.” When I asked Todd what prompted this change, he said, “It was as simple as this, we asked. We have an amazing registrar, and if she sees something that can benefit the students, she is going to at least explore it. The registrar’s office works with departments to get the schedules together, and we were able to get an extra week.”

The schedule will come out on October 14th, and students will be able to view the upcoming classes. Todd mentioned, “I think it is important for students to know that registration opens for seniors on November 4th at 7 a.m.” Following the seniors, registration will open to juniors on November 6th, sophomores on November 8th, and then continuing first-year students on November 11th. Early registration is something that benefits all students. Not only can you get an idea of what classes you want to take for the upcoming semester, but students will be able to make advising appointments with more ease and flexibility.

Todd also explained to me that there will be an event for students regarding registration, “It is a drop-in event where students may still need additional assistance from their advisor, or maybe they don’t have an advisor at all yet. This event allows us to see students in a more timely manner, so they don’t have to wait two weeks to get an appointment. This event runs November 11th-13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Quad Lounge.” The ROAR Advising event is a very accessible and visible event for students to attend.  Todd explained how student-friendly this event will be: “Every college is represented. The Career Center will usually set up as well and market their services as well. I think early registration benefits everyone, and this is a great event to get the semester kicked off.” Additionally, students who attend, participate in the ROAR event, and flash their Spring 2025 course registration can win Idaho State University swag, so make sure to attend for some free swag!
