Getting the job of a lifetime
In my time thus far at ISU, I’ve had many wonderful opportunities and adventures come my way but none so rewarding as my work at The Bengal.
Throughout my life, writing has always been a point of passion and provided me with solace and an escape when I needed it. That being said, an opportunity to write for my college newspaper has been everything I could have asked for and so much more… if only I could have an office cat to keep me company during long days of writing and production, I would be in heaven (I do already have a cat, after all).
I’ve worked with a number of incredibly talented people, made some great friends and done some useful networking in my time at The Bengal and I’m looking forward to continuing to do so in the coming year with our newly hired staff.
From happily gossiping about cats and coffee at staff meetings to attending events that I never would have branched out and experienced otherwise, I’ve definitely become a more well-rounded person in my time at The Bengal.
I’ve met and networked with everyone from ISU officials to club presidents to service dogs—and those who know me and the animal lover I am know that being in a room with a service dog for an interview was a dream come true. The best part of everything is I’ve had the best time imaginable doing it. I couldn’t even begin to fathom a job that is less of a job to me.
In the coming year as I take on a new role as Associate Editor at The Bengal, I will take time to learn the ins and outs of our organization before I take on the role of Editor-in-Chief next Spring.
I am so thankful to have been selected as the next Editor-in-Chief at The Bengal. I am excited to be a part of the continued success and growth of this publication and cannot wait to see how far I can go and how far I can take The Bengal in my time here.
While I am nervous and aware that I will have some rather large metaphorical shoes to fill, I feel that with the guidance of our current Editor-in-Chief Nicole Blanchard I will be well prepared to do the best job possible when it is my time to take over.
I hope to see “The Bengal” remain an integral part of the ISU community and would love to see it continue to grow in terms of quality, content and readership. I will do my absolute best to make The Bengal every bit as successful as it has been and more.
