In the season of cooler weather, falling leaves and eerie decorations, ghoulish traditions are in full swing. In the height of fall, nothing seems better than getting cozy and spending the night watching some iconic horror films. With both classics as well as new releases to enjoy, here is a list of the top five best scary movies available on streaming services to enjoy this fall:

“Scream” – Hulu

One of the most popular horror films of the early 2000s, “Scream” is a classic whodunit film revolving around a mysterious killer in a Halloween costume known as Ghostface. Throughout the movie, Ghostface makes several threatening, anonymous calls to high school students in middle-class suburbia, stalking them, and over-time killing them off, leaving many wondering who the masked murderer could be. A mix of funny and scary, “Scream” offers a cruel plot with a side of parody.

“The Silence of the Lambs” – Netflix

A classic early 90s film, ‘Silence of the Lambs” revolves around a young FBI trainee, Clarice Starling. Clarice is pulled from her learning to capture a serial kill- er known as Buffalo Bill, who is known for skinning his victims’ corpses. To success- fully do so, Starling has to create a psycho- logical profile and seeks out the help of an imprisoned psychiatrist / serial killer, Hannibal Lecter to understand the serial killer mentality. Lecter, throughout a chain of events, assists Starling in uncovering the mystery of Buffalo Bill, for a price. In an unusual story of teamwork, “The Silence of the Lambs” is a classic and unmissable thriller.

“#Alive” – Netflix

A newly released horror movie, “#Alive” is a South Korean based film, which, similar to current events, revolves around quarantine in a modern-day era. Joon- wo, who lives with his parents in an urban apartment complex, receives word that a disease is spreading that causes cannibalistic tendencies in humans. After losing his family and friends to the disease, and with the government struggling to get control, Joon-wo has to fend for himself and figure out how to make it out of the epidemic alive. In the midst of an infested city, finding other survivors, fighting for essentials and the struggle of trying to be noticed by a rescue team,“ #Alive” is a classic yet suspenseful zombie film that’ll keep you on your toes.

“HUSH” – Netflix

“HUSH” revolves around a woman named Maddie Young, a young author who loses her capability to both hear and speak permanently after a botched surgery. Young lives an isolated life in the woods with only her cat as company, only getting visits from friends from time to time. One night, her close friend Sarah comes to return a copy of Young’s book, only to be attacked by a masked killer and followed to Young’s house. With Sarah screaming for help outside, Young’s oblivion helps the killer quickly realize Young’s lack of hearing, taking it to his full advantage. The killer begins to stalk her, breaking into her home and sending her threatening messages, after which Young finally realizes the situation she is in. The killer slowly limits Young’s ability to escape from her own home and after several failed at- tempts of doing so, Young realizes the only way she will make it out alive is to confront the killer herself.

“May the Devil Take You” – Netflix

“May the Devil Take You”, an Indonesian produced film, follows a girl named Alfie. While trying to find answers about her father’s mysterious illness, Alfie finds out events from the past while visiting his old house. Soon enough, Alfie learns that her father has made a pact with the devil in the past, and the devil is coming to collect on it. Alfie, desperate for clarity and a way to get out of the pact, uncovers secrets from her father’s former days.
