Thumbs up, Thumbs down: What sucks and what doesn’t according to Lucas Gebhart

Thumbs up: Mug Night

I’ve haven’t been able to go as much this semester as I was the past couple semesters, but Hooligans’ weekly cheap beer night is great way to start the week. Mondays suck, so the fact that I can go to Hooligans and pay $1.50 per beer is exactly what I need to push through the week’s worst day. Just don’t forget your mug.

Thumbs up: Playoffs?

Is it too soon to start talking playoffs? With a win over Portland State, ISU football looks like it’s in good position to grab a spot in the FCS playoffs. ISU was hosed out of a spot in 2014, so the Bengals may have to win out to really solidify a spot, which won’t be easy because Weber State come to town Nov. 17. But the fact that we are even talking about ISU potentially making the playoffs is a successful season in itself, in my mind.

Thumbs up: North Idaho

It’s a different world up in the Coeur d’Alene area that consists of some of the most beautiful land this country has to offer. Driving up Highway 95 from Boise seems a lot shorter than it actually is because of scenery. Once you hit about Council, the high desert brownness is traded for mountainous greens. More trees, more lakes and better views.

Thumbs down: Driving in the rain

Driving in the rain at night is like driving on mirrors. Maybe my vision just sucks (which is a total possibility because I’ve had some form of glasses since 3rd grade) but I cannot see anything when it’s raining.

Thumbs down: Job hunting

It’s stressful and nobody likes doing it. The thing that sucks is everybody has to do it. Another thing that sucks, especially for college students, is most entry-level jobs require some type of experience. Well, it’s hard to get experience if nobody will hire you because you don’t have any experience.

Thumbs down: Maryland football

The University of Maryland completely mishandled college football’s latest scandal. To catch you on the basics, offensive lineman Jordan McNair died after suffering a heatstroke earlier this summer. The school placed head coach DJ Durkin on paid administrative leave before saying that they were going to retain Durkin as head coach. He was then fired a few days later after the public backlash about the decision. My view, you either fire the guy or you don’t. Make a decision and stick with it. This is a bad look for Maryland in so many ways. Talk about a reactive approach to a crisis.
