The Idaho State women’s tennis team opened the 2019-20 season at the Barb Chandler Tournament in Boise.
“It was a great tournament,” Idaho State coach Gretchen Maloney said. “Our girls played consistent and fought for every point. We had a lot of great wins against tough competitors. We are looking forward to our home invite this weekend.”
On Friday, the Bengals earned a 2-1 win over Boise State. Madison Fenske and Melissa Coburn defeated a doubles team from Boise State and Coburn defeated Jovana Kuljanin of Boise State 6-0, 6-7 (8-6), 6-2 to give ISU the 2-1 win over the Broncos.
Adriene Pavek and Viktoriia Pavlovets also earned a 2-1 win over Boise State on Friday. The doubles tandem beat Boise State 6-4 and then Pavlovets beat Corey Patton Lossner 6-2, 6-3.
On Saturday, Angela Walker and Alexandra Arkhipov sparked the Bengals to a sweep of Utah State. The doubles duo won 6-4 over Annaliese County and Renata Lombera. In singles play, Walker defeated County 6-7 (6), 7-6 (6), 6-4 and Arkhipov beat Lombera 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
In doubles play on Saturday, Hristina Cvetkovic and Megan Poe beat Pei-Hsuan Kuo and Caitlin Herb, 6-3.
On Sunday, Walker and Arkhipov sparked the Bengals to a 2-1 win over Idaho. The doubles duo beat Maggie Chen and Andjela Todorovic 6-1. Arkhipov then beat Todorovic 6-0, 7-5 in singles play.
Melissa Coburn earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ana Conde Vendrell of Boise State.
Cvetkovic and Poe also earned a 2-1 win over Weber State. The doubles team beat Yuuna Ukita and Megan Lombardi 7-6 (7-3). Cvetkovic then beat Ukita 7-6, 6-4.
The Idaho State Invite is Sept. 20-22. Details will be provided early next week on how to follow the tournament
