There are many businesses in downtown Pocatello; ranging from bookstores to vintage stores, to coffee shops, and there is no shortage of small locally owned establishments. I was lucky enough to sit down with yet another small business owner: Jacob Hubers. Located at 427 N Main St, White Owl Rare Books is a one-of-a-kind shop in downtown Pocatello.

This December, Pocatello offers a variety of budget-friendly events for holiday celebrations. From free Christmas carnivals and cookie decorating to traditional cultural celebrations and a Krampus party, there’s something for everyone. Support local businesses at the Christmas Market or enjoy the Christmas Lights Hayride Tour, all without breaking the bank.

The Gamery, a new board game café in Pocatello, is owned by Dana Bezdeka and her daughters, Sierra and Casey. Inspired by board game cafés in New Zealand, the family wanted to create a cozy, game-focused space for socializing. The café offers a large collection of games, snacks, and mocktails, and hosts events like puzzle competitions and Dungeons & Dragons sessions. With flexible passes and a welcoming atmosphere, The Gamery provides a fun, safe place for people to gather and enjoy games.

Hygge Place, a unique bookstore in downtown Pocatello opened by Cammy Barrera, combines new and used books with a variety of houseplants. Barrera welcomes patrons to hang out and hosts events like craft nights and a Winter Solstice celebration in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
