Idaho State University’s Student Success Center (SSC) will host two Peer Recruiting Days on Tuesday, March 19, and Wednesday, March 20. The events, to be held in the Central Academic Advising (CAA) conference room, Museum Building Room 302, will take place at three different times each day to ensure the most availability for interested students.
Sessions will be held at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on March 19, and 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on March 20.
“They’re one-hour sessions where you can learn about all the leadership opportunities in the Student Success Center,” said Nancy Goodman, an academic adviser in the Center.
The sessions will include incentive prizes for attendees, such as ISU gear.
Goodman said the Peer Recruiting Days are a good opportunity for both older and incoming students.
“From the Student Success Center standpoint, the students who are doing well, now the next step is how can you share that with other students,” she explained.
“You’re directly involved with fellow students,” she added of the benefits of peer involvement. “You’re getting some of those leadership skills and giving back to the university.”
Attendees will learn about involvement opportunities with various university groups, such as Peer Advisers, Peer First Year Seminar Instructors, SSC and New Student Orientation Leadership Team, Peer Tutors through Academic Programs and Peer Tutors and Supplemental Instructors through TRiO.
“We want to have students working with fellow students because that relationship is really unique,” Goodman said.
The Center will have a table available on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those who can’t attend the sessions.
