The Student Anthropology Club has been a thriving presence on campus at Idaho State University for many years and is one of the most active ASISU-recognized clubs on campus.
President Brad Paige said that the club provides students with a chance to voice their questions, opinions and thoughts directly to faculty and staff in the department.
The club allows members and participants to talk about departmental events and engage in general cultural discussions. The club also holds meetings to distribute handouts and explain requirements for anthropology majors. Students interested in becoming majors or minors are welcome.
Friday, Sept. 14, the club will hold their first regular “Bad Movie Night,” tentatively featuring “Flash Gordon.” In October, the club will take a trip to the King Tut museum exhibit in Idaho Falls. Also in October, a Halloween party and pumpkin carving activities will be held.
Contact the club for locations or further information on any of these events.
Fundraising is an integral part of the Anthropology Club. The group fundraises through various events to send students to conventions at the local and national level. Each year, the club sends between four and seven students to various conventions or events relating to anthropology or their majors.
The club includes a social aspect as well. Friday, Sept. 7, the club held their annual Welcome Back Picnic in Bonneville Park. The event included food, music and conversation and attracted about 40 attendees.
The club is not only opened to anthropology majors or students who aspire to have a career in anthropology.
“We strongly urge any students who are interested in people, which is what anthropologists study, to become part of [the club].” said adviser Dave Peterson. “We can provide events and interactions with students and help them understand more about the exciting things that anthropologists do.”
