The St. John’s Catholic Student Association meets at the St. John’s Catholic Community, located on campus.

St. John’s Catholic Student Association is one of relatively few religious clubs available to students on campus.
St. John’s Church has been on campus for almost 50 years. It is the church’s mission to serve the Idaho State University Catholic community. St. John’s Student Association arose from the church and has been an official club on campus for 10 to 15 years.
According to the club’s adviser, Jennifer Seaich, its goal is to help primarily Catholic students to develop and mature in faith at ISU as well as in friendships and in the community.
“Education is about academic growth and development and we get to add a spiritual aspect of growth and development to college,” said Seaich.
There are no dues or requirements to be a club member and all Catholic-friendly students are welcome to join and participate in the club.
Individuals interested in participating have numerous options available for them to get involved including spiritual, prayer, food, social and service options.
Some activities hosted by the group include Applied Catholicism followed by dinner Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Grilled Cheese Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Bible Study Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the St. John’s Library. St. John’s holds a regular mass at 7 p.m. every Sunday.
According to Seaich, the club focuses a lot on not only the teachings of the church during their activities and discussions but on human rights and social justice issues that affect individuals both in and outside the church.
In addition to weekly events, the club offers outside events and service activities for members to participate in.
The club members plan events such as volunteer projects, game nights and movie nights, and are currently planning a laser tag outing at Outer Limits Fun Center that will take place later this spring.
In February, the club will hold a Mardi Gras Celebration at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, an Ash Wednesday service at 12:10 p.m. on Feb. 13, and Stations of the Cross services followed by a soup lunch every Friday of Lent at 12:05 p.m.
In addition, the club will host itsThird Annual Fish Fry from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
“We really are trying to get people involved. Anyone that wants to is more than welcome and definitely encouraged,” said Maxwell Moholy, club president.
“There is a Catholic presence on campus. It is vibrant and energetic and very warm and welcoming. People talk about finding a home here and finding a family,” said Seaich.
