Just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, the ISU Alert System sent out a notification of a sexual assault near campus.
It wasn’t until 10:53 a.m. the same day that another notification was sent out, informing the ISU community that the suspect was in custody.
The notification included a brief description of the suspect, and urged anyone who saw him to call 911 immediately.
The assault was reported the night of Saturday, Nov. 10, and Pocatello Police spent that night searching for him until his arrest the next morning.
The Pocatello Police Department has arrested Eric Chavez in connection with the sexual assault. The arrest took place in the Pond Student Union Building on ISU’s Pocatello Campus.
Pocatello Police were notified that Chavez had been spotted on campus around 9:50 a.m.
Chavez attempted to escape on foot after seeing approaching officers, but was soon caught and arrested.
After arresting Chavez, officers discovered that he had meth in his possession.
As of the writing of this article, the investigation into the sexual assault is still ongoing, and Chavez has not been formally charged with it.
Pocatello Police have also yet to release any more information related to the suspected assault.
