With its final selection coming in March, ISU is one step closer to having a new president. The five finalists, Ricardo Azziz, Robert Marley, Kevin Satterlee, Charles “Chuck” Wight and Laura Woodworth-Ney, each scheduled a visit to ISU campuses last week.
The schedule for these visits is available on the Presidential Search portion of ISU’s website and includes locations and times.
Forums will be held at three ISU campuses, with forums being streamed for online viewing. An evaluation form for the candidates will be made available in order for people to submit feedback regarding the candidates to the search committee.
Since the beginning of the presidential search in November, little information has been revealed about the prospective candidates. With the announcement of the finalists comes the release of their curricula vitae, allowing for a glimpse of the credentials of those vying to take the position of president in the summer of 2018.
Ricardo Azziz, M.D., has been serving as Chief Officer of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs at the State University of New York. He has described himself as “an educator-scientist-executive with over 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, research, and academic health.”
Robert Marley, Ph.D., is the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for the Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he described his position as “Chief Academic Officer with oversight of academic colleges and programs, as well as research and sponsored programs, technology transfer, enrollment management, the Registrar, financial aid, library, pre-college programs, distance education and international programs.”
Since 2015, Kevin Satterlee J.D. has been the Chief Operating Officer, Vice President and Special Counsel at Boise State University. In his curriculum vitae he states, “I am an innovative university leader who is dedicated to continuous improvement in education and to constant attention to meeting the needs of our students.”
Charles “Chuck” Wight Ph.D. has presidential experience as the president of Weber State University since 2013. His boasted accomplishments there include student success, increasing university performance and promoting technology in teaching.
Laura Woodworth-Ney Ph.D has been the Executive Vice President and Provost of ISU since 2016, but she has held various positions within the university, including Vice President for Academic Affairs, since she started as a professor of history in 1999.
As Executive Vice President and Provost she has worked closely with President Vailas and has overseen “all academic, budget, planning, information technology, human resources and facilities functions of the university.”
All five finalists will be visiting the Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Meridian campuses.
After the forums and receiving the public’s feedback, the search committee, consisting of 13 ISU community members, along with the Association of Governing Boards, will make a final decision.
