The new year brought more to ISU than just new resolutions and new students. This year, it also brought in a newly renovated movie theater for all to enjoy.
The student-funded and -operated Bengal Theater started the renovations on Dec. 8, 2018 and opened back up to the public on Jan. 7, 2019.
The remodel consisted of two separate phases.
The first phase of the renovation process was to make sure that any aspect of the theater that was deemed unsafe was improved and repaired. Unsafe stage pieces were repaired, abate asbestos was removed and the size of the stage was increased to allow for larger events.
The second phase is anticipated to take longer, finalizing in summer 2019. These renovations consist of new seats and an addition for ADA access.
“The completed remodel will provide greater access and comfortable seating, which can only improve the movie experience,” said Jason Sperry, a PSUB employee. “The larger stage will provide another space for students, student clubs, faculty and staff to use during the day and when movies are not being shown.”
The overarching goal of the renovations are to improve the overall student experience and access.
