POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State men’s tennis team continued to show strength in the final two days of the Bank of Commerce Invitational at Reed Gym. Juniors Francis Filipovich and Peter Trhac advanced to championship matches for the Bengals, yet neither was able to secure the win.
Filipovich advanced to the singles final of the Black Draw after defeating Montana’s Ludwig Hallgren 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 Saturday afternoon. In the championship match, Filipovich battled UM’s Max Korkh but fell in two sets, 7-5, 6-2.
After losing to Montana State’s Rok Sitar 7-6, 6-3 in round of 32 in the Orange Draw, Trhac made his way up through the consolation bracket, defeating Hoe En Chen of Weber State by retirement, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 win over WSU’s Bo Han Li to advance to the semifinals. Trhac followed it up with a 6-0, 6-1 win over MSU’s Kasper Parklo to advance to the championship, but Trhac’s run came to an end in the finals. Montana’s Nacho Tejerino bested Trhac 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-8 to win the consolation final of the Orange Draw.
