Super Bowl Sunday is a staple in American culture, with millions of viewers every year. The 54th Super Bowl proved much of the same as 102 million people tuned in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs face off with the San Francisco 49ers, according to CNN.

This game was the first time the two teams have met in a Super Bowl, and the first time since Super Bowl IV that the Chiefs have made it to the game. In a poll conducted on the Bengal Newspaper’s Instagram account, 56 percent of people voted for the Chiefs taking the Super Bowl while 44 percent of people picked the 49ers to take the trophy.

The game was close, with the largest lead coming from the Chiefs in the first half at 10-3. Monumentally in the fourth quarter, Kansas City went on an unanswered scoring run with Damien Williams scoring the last touchdown to bring the game to secure the win, 31-20, with two minutes to go in the game. Being that this victory was the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl win in 50 years, it’s important not to forget that this win also marks the end of Chiefs coach, Andy Reid’s, infamous unlucky streak. Reid has been known for much of his career in the NFL as, the best coach to never win a Super Bowl.” The furthest the Chiefs have made it, was in January 1970 when they took down the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth Super Bowl.

This win also seems to mark the end of the “Madden Curse”, thanks to Chiefs Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

According to Business Insider, “Ever since athletes began appearing on the cover of Madden in the late ‘90s, they seem to almost immediately lose significant amounts of playing time because of injuries, run-ins with the law, or other reasons.”

Mahomes appeared on the MAdden NFL ‘20 cover, spiking worry in football fans everywhere that he would be injured before the superbowl, or during.

According to Business Insider, “Despite an ugly mid-season knee injury, Mahomes and the Chiefs rallied to win the Super Bowl and seemingly put the jinx to rest for one season, at least.”
