Idaho State University’s Union Programs Council holds Tuesday Tunes at noon on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
“Our goal is to have the students to have a place to study, listen to music, relax and enjoy themselves,” said Wesley Ward, Union Programs Council Member. “We really want the Student Union Building to be a place to hangout away from home.”
According to Ward, the process to getting a gig at Tuesday Tunes is relatively laid back. “I’ve worked at Main Street Music since 2003, so I know a lot of the local musicians,” said Ward. “You really only need to sound good and be presentable.”
Devin Bodkin performed for Tuesday Tunes Feb. 26.
“Devin has played three or four times over the last few years,” said Ward. “Since he does primarily acoustic shows, he tends to go over really well with the students who are studying.”
Box, the band playing Tuesday, March 12, got the gig by emailing Ward some demos. “They sounded good, something a little different,” said Ward.
Box is an alternative band with electric instruments, which differs from most bands that have played for Tuesday Tunes.
“These guys are kind of a wild card, we don’t really know what to expect,” said Ward. “It’s going to be a new type of show for Tuesday Tunes, so it could be great.”
Tuesday Tunes will be one of Box’s first few performances, and the alternative sound of the band is something new to Tuesdays Tunes.
“They were one of the first bands to seek me out,” said Ward. “The UPC and myself are really excited to see their enthusiasm on stage, because this is obviously something they are excited about.”
Tuesday Tunes is a triple threat, according to Ward.
“It’s got good music, food, and convenience all together,” said Ward. “Naturally, I am an advocate of free food and I will always take another serving alongside my peers.”
Helping coordinate Tuesday Tunes is rewarding, said Ward.
“I really enjoy setting up the event that my peers can enjoy just the music as much I do,” said Ward. “I like that get to help out my friends in the music community and at ISU.”
“Our goal is to have the students have a place to study, relax and enjoy themselves,” said Ward. “We really want the Student Union Building to be a place to hang out away from home.”
