Library hosts variety of seminars

Idaho State University’s Eli M. Oboler library hosted its own week of welcome activities last week by offering several opportunities for students to learn about a variety of topics.
The library’s “Learn Something Quick” series ran from Tuesday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Aug. 31. The seminars, which lasted only 15 minutes each, began at 8 a.m. every morning and ran throughout the day, sometimes ending at 4:45 p.m.
Each workshop was held in Room 112 in the library.
Topics covered ranged from ISU-related (“Be Advised! on BengalWeb”) to technology tricks and tips (“Google Search Tricks” and “eBooks”) and even covered the increasingly-popular website Pinterest, which allows users to share photos and ideas with others. Other seminars provided students with information about using library resources, Facebook privacy settings and Google sites.
Some of the seminars even offered useful information on tricky subjects such as copyright issues and transfer transcripts.
Several different presenters, including employees from the library, the Student Success Center, Central Academic Advising and the Office of Research, gave the seminars.
In addition to offering presenters, Oboler Library, Central Academic Advising, the Student Success Center, the Office of Research and the Financial Wellness Center were sponsors of the seminars.
These offices serve several different purposes, most of which include resources for students and relate to the seminars presented by their respective employees.

At press time, “The Bengal” was unable to get in touch with anyone from Oboler Library regarding potentially offering similar seminars in the future.
