Men’s Tennis:
Idaho 5, ISU 2
The men’s tennis team fell 5-2 at Idaho Sunday afternoon at the Lewis-Clark State College Courts in Lewiston, Idaho. With the loss, the Bengals’ season effectively comes to a close.
Women’s Tennis:
Sacramento State 4, ISU 3
The women’s tennis team fell to Sacramento State April 15 at the Reed Gym Tennis Courts. ISU fell to 5-4 in conference play.
North Dakota 4, ISU 3
Idaho State (8-12, 5-5 BSC) lost the doubles point to North Dakota (7-12, 4-7 BSC) as the Fighting Hawks won at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions to seal the doubles point early. ISU’s Madison Fenske and Melissa Coburn gave the Bengals their lone doubles win with a 6-4 win over Masha Lobanova and Zahra Finnigan at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, ISU won three matches, but it was not enough for the win. Huibre-Mare Botes defeated UND’s Elly Hartnett 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles while Louise-Mare Botes picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win over Preethi Kasilingam at No. 3 singles. Andrea Walker wrapped up singles play for the Bengals with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Revenig at No. 6 singles. North Dakota collected wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to seal the 4-3 win.
ISU 6, Northern Colorado 1
Idaho State (10-12, 7-5 BSC) swept doubles play to open the match, beginning with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles as Hristina Cvetkovic and Megan Poe defeated Tristen Bryant-Otake and Anna Battersby. Melissa Coburn and Madison Fenske sealed the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles. Huibre-Mare Botes and Louise-Mare Botes also picked up a doubles win with a 7-5 win over Raffa Mora and Sarina Chhabra at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, the Bengals picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6. Northern Colorado (5-16, 1-10) picked up its lone win of the afternoon at No. 3 singles as Bryant-Otake bested Coburn 6-4, 7-6 (2).
Softball:
Weber State 7, ISU 5
Weber State 10, ISU 1
The softball team dropped a doubleheader to Weber State on Friday afternoon in Ogden. A late rally fell short in game 1 as ISU lost 7-5 and then the Bengals lost 10-1 in five innings.
Idaho State had 18 hits on the day. Cassidy FitzGerald, Shayna Dahlen and Frankie Tago each had three hits.
Ashlyn Ames took the loss in game 1. She pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits, seven runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Mariah Mulcahy suffered the loss in game 2, allowing 11 hits, 10 runs, three walks and three strikeouts.
In game 1, Weber State scored four runs in the third inning to take a 6-2 lead. In the top of the sixth inning ISU scored three runs to cut the Wildcat lead to 6-5.
Weber State scored one run in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-5 lead.
In game 2, the score was tied at one after the top of the second inning. Weber State then scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning, three in the third and one in the fourth to earn the 10-1 win.
Weber 3, ISU 2
Ames took the loss, pitching a complete game, striking out two and walking four. Four different Bengals had hits.
Weber State led 1-0 after the first inning and maintained the lead through three innings. ISU tied the game at one in the fourth. Kelsey Breer led off with a double to left field and she later scored when Emma Bordenkecher doubled her home.
The Wildcats added two runs in the fifth and the Bengal rally fell short in the seventh.
ISU plays its final home games this weekend on April 27-28 against Southern Utah.
