After a roughly two-month hiatus, “The Bengal” online is up-to-date and running again. We’ve relaunched on a different, more user-friendly platform that we hope will attract more visitors.
Our website, www.isubengal.com has moved from the College Publisher platform to a much more functional WordPress platform.
“This website will actually allow us to include a greater variety of articles and features, as well as support website advertising,” said Wayne Turner, production editor for “The Bengal” and mastermind behind the creation of the updated website.
Not only will the website feature posts of our print-edition stories, there will also be online-exclusive stories, photo galleries and opportunities for students and other readers to get involved with the staff of “The Bengal.”
“[The website] can be ported to Facebook and Twitter,” added Turner. “Our content is going to be accessible from Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. The public can keep tabs on what we’re doing and stay aware of our content no matter what platform they prefer.”
“We’ve got readers covered five ways to Wednesday,” said Turner of the multitude of ways to access “The Bengal.”
“The Bengal” is available on five different platforms: in print, via our website at www.isubengal.com, via Facebook at www.facebook.com/isubengal, on Twitter at www.twitter.com/isubengal and on Tumblr at isubengal.tumblr.com.
Students, staff and faculty can access our website and social media sites throughout the week to stay up-to-date on campus news until our next print edition comes out the following Wednesday.
Our Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr can easily be accessed via smartphone, as can the revamped website.
“The website will be accessible from mobile devices like cell phones and tablets, and we’ll be verified as accessible for the handicapped, with features like screen readers for the blind,” Turner added.
In addition, our social media sites (primarily Facebook) allow readers the opportunity to communicate questions, concerns and story ideas to “Bengal” staffers in a much more accessible, casual way than through phone or email.
“The Bengal” currently has an opening for our Online Editor position, which entails uploading content to the website and managing our social networking websites. Those interested in the position can contact Nicole Blanchard at ude.usinull@feihcgb.
In the meantime, other newspaper staff members will continue to maintain and improve our new website and interact with students, staff, faculty and any other readers via Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
