Luke Austin, 82, catches a pass for a touchdown against UC Davis on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Idaho State University football team gave fans plenty of reasons to cheer as Kevin Yost had a career-high five touchdown passes against UC-Davis on Saturday at Holt Arena. While the Bengals lost the game 52-45, Mike Kramer was pleased with the effort his players showed against the Aggies.
ISU head coach Mike Kramer said,  “A wonderful effort coming off about as ugly a thing that could have happened last week. It was a wonderful effort by our 88 players, our 12 coaches, equipment, everybody. We spilled our guts on every play. I couldn’t be more proud.”
Yost connected with three different players in the end zone.  Rodrick Rumble, Josh Hill and Cameron Richmond all got one touchdown from Yost, while Luke Austin had two.
Rumble had seven catches for 142 yards with the bulk of those yards coming off a 67-yard touchdown pass from Yost. The reception was the third longest team offensive play since 2007 and the longest of Rumble’s career. Richmond had six catches for 63 yards and Hill led the team in receptions with 10 for 82 yards.
The game wasn’t void of defensive highlights as Phil Pleasant, Mitch Beckstead, Demetrius Allen, Trevor Spence, Cameron Gupton and Leki Fuapua all had career-highs in tackles.
Rumble and Yost are poised to pass two ISU legends in the records books.  Yost needs 67 more passing yards to move into seventh place ahead of Mike Machurek. Rumble needs just three more receptions to move ahead of Merril Hoge’s 182 career receptions.
The Bengals’ next two games are on the road against the University of Northern Colorado and Montana. The Bengals return home to face Northern Arizona University on Nov. 3 at Holt Arena.
