Fun Run Focuses on Families

On Saturday, Nov. 10, there will be a 5k fun run held outside Albion Hall at Idaho State University. Pre-registration will begin at 10 a.m., with the 5k itself starting at 11.
Hosted by Phi-Upsilon Omicron (Phi-U), a national honor society for Family and Consumer Science and Dietetics Majors, the fun run will be dedicated to helping families grow together.
The 5k will be a relaxed event, with walking and running options, and booths set up along the pathway. These booths will contain educational, informative, and beneficial material for the whole family. Topics include physical fitness, health and hydration, family game night, savings and budgets and family dinners. Each booth will be stocked with a family-friendly activity as well as educational material.
The fun run is a free community event, but the organizers request that attendees donate either a couple of dollars or a canned food item for the local food bank.
Keisha Angell, an organizer of the event, says that Phi-U is hoping to “involve the community in a fun environment, and educate them on family and consumer science activities as well as health and nutrition.”
In addition to the informative booths, there will be other activities in which the attendees can participate, including refreshments served in the Albion Hall Foods Lab after the race has ended. The refreshments will be comprised of “a free potato bar, hot chocolate, and games and prizes for all participants,” says Angell.
Angell comments, “We’ve put a lot of work into this event and are hoping for decent weather and a great turn out so families can enjoy the day together.”
Pre-registration is available online at sites.google.com/a/isu.edu/phi-u-5k/ up until Friday, Nov. 9 at midnight. Registration will also be available the day of the race.
