Back in black (and orange)

Idaho State University’s annual Week of Welcome activities started on Monday, Aug. 27, with the Welcome Back Orange and Black celebration. Welcome Back Orange and Black featured free food, games, raffles and entertainment.  The musical “RENT” was performed at 7:30 p.m. in Bistline Theater in the Stephens Performing Arts Center.  Fred Meyer hosted a Back to School night in the Pocatello Fred Meyer from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. where discounted items for students were sold.
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, events included a 3 p.m. to 6 pm. International Black Book Affair. The Recreation Center held “Get Rec’d” at the Student Recreation Center climbing wall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There were food, prizes and games. The annual Cold Butts and Beer was held at Bartz Field on Tuesday. The root beer kegger event included ice blocking competitions in which students sat on ice blocks and raced downhill. Free T-shirts went to the first 100 attendees.
Wednesday, Aug. 29, the Pond Student Union staff are holding a free Welcome Back BBQ on the Hutchinson Quadrangle from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students can learn about and sign up for organizations at the Student Organizations Involvement Fair being held on the Hutchinson Quadrangle from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair will have ISU gear and live music by One Night Stand. Auditions for ISU’s fall theater productions are being held at the Bistline Theater from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. “The Hunger Games” is being shown at 8 p.m. in the Bengal Theater.
Thursday, Aug. 30, there is a Student Activities Board Party on the Hutchinson Quadrangle featuring free food to the first 200 students, free music and giveaways. “The Avengers” will be shown at 8 p.m. Admission is free for ISU students in the Bengal Theater.
Friday, Aug. 31, will be a Greek Recruitment BBQ behind Turner Hall. Alongside information about Greek Life at ISU will be food and refreshments for students. The Union Program Council (UPC) is holding an End of Summer Pool Party at Ross Park. Students receive free admission with a Bengal ID. Wrapping up the Week of Welcome activities is “The Avengers,” showing at the Bengal Theater at 7 p.m. and “RENT,” showing in the Bistline Theater at 7:30 p.m.
