ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CORRESPONDENCE
1. Stephanie Foreman, Office of Student Affairs
a. Student Emergency Fund
i. The Student Emergency Fund was created three years ago to assist
students with unforeseen financial hardships which otherwise would have
prevented them from continuing their college education.
ii. These funds cover financial emergencies such as medical expenses,
prescriptions, essential utilities, safety and security needs, car repairs, and
rent. It does not cover tuition or student fees, health insurance, cable, etc.
iii. Students must meet the set criteria in order to receive these funds and
may submit their application to the Office of Student Affairs.
b. Benny’s Pantry
i. Benny’s Pantry was started by ISU First Lady, Laura Vailas, in 2017 and is a
means to help eliminate food insecurity among students and faculty.
ii. In 2018 12,580 pounds of food were distributed to those in need.
iii. Lyn Redington, Vice President for Student Affairs, is a firm believer in
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Students must first be able to take care of
their most basic needs and that includes nutrition.
2. Val Davids, Director of Student Organizations
a. Non-Affiliated Social Association (NASA), Sarah Dolbinski
i. NASA’s main goal is to do service projects and fundraising events. The
money they raise will be donated to good causes.
ii. Motion to approve Non-Affiliated Social Association (NASA): Alvarez/Webb
PRESIDENT KAY’S REPORT
a. President Kay has reached out to other student body presidents to see what they have done to be more green on their campus.
b. Now that the Resolution about closed captioning for disabled people has been passed, President Kay will take it to Faculty Senate.
c. Resolution 599 concerning the New York Times will be presented today.
