Alpha Kappa Psi is an international society with chapters on most major college campuses in the United States as well in other countries such as China, Canada and England. It is a co-ed fraternity at Idaho State University that provides opportunities for students to further their professional development.
The group is comprised mostly of business majors but all majors are welcome according to outgoing 2012-2013 president Taylor Jensen.
“Anybody who’s wanting to really develop their skills and get a job, really, [is welcome],” said Jensen.
Jensen said the group is constantly working to bring in as many employers as possible to events to maximize networking and other opportunities for members. A major benefit for members is the networking and professional development aspect of the society.
On April 17, the club partook in the Idaho Business Leader of the Year event held at the Stephens Performing Arts Center at ISU. According to Jensen, six ISU Alpha Kappa Psi members left the event with internships.
This summer, approximately seven members will travel to New Orleans to participate in an Alpha Kappa Psi convention Monday, Aug. 5; Tuesday, Aug. 6 and Wednesday, Aug. 7. The convention will give attendees the opportunity to network and meet other Alpha Kappa Psi members from around the world.
Every fall, Alpha Kappa Psi conducts “rush” during the first two weeks of classes. This is the main opportunity for students interested in joining the group to participate and get involved. To be part of “rush” you must be invited by Alpha Kappa Psi. Students interested in being invited to participate in “rush” this fall, contact Vice President of Members Kailey Phillips.
“We have a lot of great, active members that contribute so it’s a lot of fun,” said Jensen.
Jensen noted that the group’s adviser, Greg Murphy, was awarded the ASISU adviser of the year award for 2012-2013.
