Welcome to the Flix Pix three part Halloween special series of film and shows you should not miss this Halloween season.

This series is a bit askew from the traditional Flix Pix style we have presented in the past.

There will be references for Amazon Prime, Hulu and Netflix. However, not all our recommendations will be free with subscription or available on these mediums at all. A bit of a treasure hunt may ensue, which just right for some Halloween fun!

Shall we begin our adventure?

To kick off this special series we will explore some fantastic classics that are not always well known by mainstream horror film enthusiasts.

1. The first film we are looking at is “The Haunting”

This film from 1963 stars Claire Bloom, Julie Harris, Richard Johnson and Russ Tamblyn.

“The Haunting” is a dramatic psychological horror film based on a  Shirley Jackson book from 1959 “The Haunting of Hill House.”

This film is available to watch on Fandango, Google Play, Amazon Prime and Vudu to rent for $2.99.

2.  “13 Ghosts” (1960), starring Margaret Hamilton (better known for her role as the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz”), Martin Milner and Donald Woods. This horror film is an interesting portrayal of the classic haunted house ghost story. The addition of the requirement of special goggles used to see the ghosts is genius for the time period.

This film is available to watch on Fandango, Amazon Prime and Vudu to rent for $2.99.

3. “The Last Man On Earth” (1964 version) starring the phenomenal Vincent Price, Franca Bettoia and Giacomo Rossi Stuart is a sci-fi horror film with a kind of vampire-zombie mutant mix of creatures. The film is based on the 1954 novel “I am Legend” by author Richard Matheson.

This film is available to watch on Amazon Prime, free with subscription.

4. “Psycho,” a 1960 classic directed by Alfred Hitchcock, stars the late, great, wonderfully creepy Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh and John McIntire. This psychological thriller is a popular classic which is also based on a book, the 1959 novel by the same name, written by Author Robert Bloch.

This film is available to watch on Google Play, Amazon Prime and Vudu to rent for $2.99.

If you have Shudder, it’s free!

5. “Godzilla” a.k.a. “Gojira (1954)

This is a great, cheesy, classic Japanese monster movie that you cannot miss! Starring Akihiko Hirata, Akira Takarada, Momoko Kōchi and Takashi Shimura, it is dubbed in English, which is part of the novelty of the original series of films.

This film is available to watch on Google Play, Amazon Prime and Vudu to rent for $2.99.

6. “The Horror of Dracula” (1958)

This film is one of several created with an amazing cast. The foremost important and  consistent character of Count Dracula is exquisitely portrayed by Christopher Lee. The equally important role of Van Helsing is portrayed in this film by Peter Cushing, a fantastic go-to classic horror film actor.

This film is available to watch on Fandango, Google Play, Amazon Prime and Vudu to rent for $2.99.

7. “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” (1957)

Starring a very young Michael Landon, Yvonne Lime, Whit Bissell and Malcolm Atterbury, this film by classic cult film producer Herman Cohen is a must see!

This film is harder to find, but the full movie can at least be found on YouTube.

8. On a less serious note, you can’t miss the 1948 classic horror comedy film “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.” This hilarious film stars multiple classic talents in the cast including Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lon Chaney, Jr. and Bela Lugosi.

This film is available to watch on Google Play, Amazon Prime and Vudu to rent for $2.99.

Happy haunting!
