CANINE COOKING CONCOCTIONS

Homemade dog treats on a dish.Andrew Crighton

Editor-in-Chief

Give your dog a real treat. Instead of buying expensive treats at the store, save some money and make them yourself. The benefits of homemade treats are that you are able to know exactly what is in them, save money by making them in bulk and the ability to adjust the recipe to fit potential dietary needs. This recipe in particular is great if you have some bananas that need to be used up.

Recipe

2 Large Bananas

4 Tablespoons Peanut Butter

4 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

4 Tablespoons Brewer’s Yeast.

Instructions

Smash the bananas until most of the lumps are gone. Then add 2 tbs. of both peanut butter and coconut oil and mix well. After the mixture is well mixed add the brewer’s yeast, mix again.

Add the remaining coconut oil and peanut butter.  Mix for the final time, then pour the mixture in a plastic bag and cut off an end use it as a pipet. Pipet the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays. Freeze for two hours and store in a cold place. Use within two to three weeks.

I can say from experience that these are great treats. My dogs love them, even more than store bought meat based treats. What makes these great is that the peanut butter makes them last longer than a dry dog bone. Plus there is a lot of entertainment from watching your dogs try and get the peanut butter off the roof of their mouths.
